Free Online Classes with Audio Engineer Kris Crummett

Kris Crummett, veteran audio engineer who has worked with bands like Issues, Sleeping With Sirens and more, will host back-to-back CreativeLive courses next month, "Flawless Vocals: Recording, Editing & Mixing" on and "Tracking & Mixing with Outboard Gear" in August and will feature actual Pro Tools sessions from Rise Records chart topper, Issues.  The classes are free to watch live. 

In the past 10 years, Producer/Engineer Kris Crummett has worked with hundreds of bands and labels around the globe. He prides him himself on his ability to work efficiently anywhere while still having Interlace Audio as his home-base in Portland, Ore. How To Write a Killer Cover Letter: Ask Not What The Company Can Do For You

"My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country."
- John F. Kennedy
It's a profound and famous quote about the responsibilities that come with citizenship, but it can also be applied to job searching by changing a few key words: "Ask not what the company can do for you, ask what you can do for the company." 
So what does mean? It means that if you're writing your cover letter all about why you want to work at that company and what you hope to gain you're doing it wrong. Sure, HR people want to know you are genuinely passionate and excited about the work that company does, and you should showcase that. However, hiring managers are looking to find a person with a solid track record of real results. They want the people that can get the job done, improve profits, refine systems to save time or money, and help the company to grow and improve. The best cover letters are the ones that tell them how you will do that. 
Does the job call for social media skills? Great, tell them about the tweets you sent for a business that got 50 retweets and 35 favorites. Do they want someone with experience in PR? Tell them about the feature you secured in a local paper. (Don't make these things up, these are just examples.)  Think about your work history and experience and how it applies directly to the job you are applying for and tell them how you have already used these skills to help grow or improve a business. 
So stop writing cover letters thinking about why you want this job so badly and start asking yourself what you can do for each company.

Communications Internship with The GRAMMY Foundation and MusiCares in Los Angeles

The communications internship will consist of working with the Communications Director and the Communications Coordinator – New Media on a range of projects for both the GRAMMY Foundation and MusiCares that involve public relations, marketing research, social media networking and the Foundations' Web sites. Tasks will be administrative as well as project-based and the time commitment would be 20 hours per week. Candidate must be able to receive academic credit.

The GRAMMY Foundation was established in 1988 to cultivate the understanding, appreciation and advancement of the contribution of recorded music to American culture — from the artistic and technical legends of the past to the still unimagined musical breakthroughs of future generations of music professionals. The Foundation accomplishes this mission through programs and activities that engage the music industry and cultural community as well as the general public. The Foundation works in partnership year-round with The Recording Academy to bring national attention to important issues such as the value and impact of music and arts education and the urgency of preserving our rich cultural heritage.

Design Internship with Creative Spotlights in New York


We are creating an ebook to help inspire and empower artists. It is made from interviews we have done with 100s of people in the music industry over the past four years. We are seeking an intern to assist with the creating of the ebook in indesign. In exchange for helping us we will give you free career coaching, since the cowriter Emily is a certified life and business coach.We will also write you a recommendation on LinkedIn and connect you to as many people as possible.


  • Assists in the design and development of our e-book 
  • Responsible to incorporate current design trends into each unique layout to produce an up-to-date style for custom ads 
  • Ability to exercise good judgment when interpreting instructions and to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions 
  • Utilize strong written skills and bring effective visual ideas from concept through to completion


  • Working towards a BA or certificate from a Fine Arts program/Graphic Design school 
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign, and proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator 
  • Knowledge of Mac OS and software upgrades and proficiency in Microsoft Office programs 
  • Must be a team player and flourish in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment

Internships with the Future of Music Coalition in Washington, DC

Future of Music Coalition is a national non-profit education, research and advocacy organization that identifies, examines, interprets and translates the challenging issues at the intersection of music, law, technology and policy. FMC achieves this through continuous interaction with its primary constituency - musicians - and in collaboration with other creator/citizen groups.

FMC works toward its mission through three program areas: Research, Education and Policy. We organize public discussion of issues that impact musicians and the public at large, making sure to include a variety of voices in the conversation. We submit testimony, publish articles and speak on panels to make sure the creators’ experience is heard. We generate original research to more completely illuminate the mechanics of the music industry.
