Affordable Business Fashion

It's the time of year for fall internship interviews and in my book fall tends to mean great fashion, but that can be very difficult on the budget of an intern or new employee. This entire outfit is under $180, even less since some of these common items can likely already be found in your closet.

Start with a basic grey pencil skirt and jewel colored dressy shirt. This skirt is actually a small black and white plaid printed skirt from for $46.95 at New York & Company, one of my favorite stores for chic but business friendly fashion. The top is available at Target for $26.99. Shoes are a bit hard to find now in styles appropriate for work since high heels and platforms are trendy right now. These styles may be fun for a night out with friends, but they're not exactly work appropriate. These shoes from DSW may be a little on the pricey side at $44.95 for a budget outfit, but they are work friendly and still fashionable. Pair them with any basic black sheer tights, if you don't already own some you can get 3 pairs from Amazon for $30. The necklace is $16.95 at New York & Company and you can get a second jewelry item half off. Lastly, pull the look together with a skinny black belt, this one comes in a set of two from Payless for only $12.99.
